INTERNATIONAL MARITIME INSTITUTE GREATER NOIDA CELEBRATES COMMENCEMENT OF SILVER JUBLEE YEAR OF ITS ESTABLISHMENT.
International Maritime Institute, category “A 1 Outstanding” Institute on 16 March, commenced celebrations to commemorate 25th year of its birth. The Institute came into being on 17 Jan 1992 at Vasant Kunj. This was the first private institute in Northern India to impart pre sea training to merchant navy cadets.
The institute had invited all ex IMI cadets for this event. Large number of ex cadets, many of them Masters and Chief Engineers now, visited the institute, their alma mater, and interacted with the young cadets. It was a moment of nostalgia for IMI alumni when they walked through the IMI campus recalling their fond memories of own training days and also observing the changes which have come about with advancing technology.
After the walk around the campus, alumni had Bara Khana with the cadets and staff. Afternoon session was kicked off with quiz competition and cultural programme. Cadets of IMI displayed their music and dancing talent by singing songs, playing guitar and mesmerizing dance performance. This was followed by Technical Seminar at IMI 1 campus. Cadets from both Deck and Engine side presented papers on contribution towards cleaner and efficient ship operations. The topics covered were Trends in Ballast water management and how to improve specific fuel consumption on board ships.
Evening function was held at Crowne Plaza Greater Noida with musical evening and dinner. It was a great moment to see founding fathers and ex principals of the Institute with their families, many of them touching ripe age of 90, being present at the function. A power point ppt displaying 25 years of IMI was put up which brought old memories of these founding father to life. Those who were present included Capt. R C Malhotra, Capt. S M Berry, Capt. Rajeev Behl, Capt. Karanjit Singh, Capt. V K Kriplani, Capt. R N Saxena , C/E Mr. K D Ahuja. They were received by Capt. Kohli, present Chairman and by Capt. Varshney, present HOI. Mr. Bheem Makhija, the oldest amongst the founding fathers however could not make it to the function, he, however mailed his address to be read and emotions were at display when his address was read out by the present cadet of IMI.
In addition, Mr. Sundaram, Nautical Surveyer MMD and Mr. Meena, Engineer Surveyer also graced the occasion. Representatives of major shipping companies were also present. All faculty of IMI with their spouses were present to welcome the distinguished guests.
In closing address, present HOI, Capt. Varshney, gave a run down on the proposed programme during the anniversary year which would include, cricket match with alumni, Technical Seminar and gala evening in January 2017.
